Peter Lindsell & Associates have been working on the design, construction and assessment of bridges since 1968. In addition, members of the Company have taught on undergraduate and post-graduate courses on bridge design and management for over 25 years. Model testing and full-scale testing of bridges were undertaken during post-graduate research conducted at three Universities. The development of in situ stress measurement techniques and the demands for load testing of existing structures have led to detailed investigations of several hundred bridges.

Special Inspections
Peter Lindsell & Associates have been responsible for special inspections and structural investigations of more than 100 bridge decks. Detailed visual examinations, material tests, in situ stress measurements and live load tests have been undertaken on all types of bridge deck, ranging from cast iron to modern precast segmental concrete. A complete advisory and investigation service is available, as members of the Company have adapted specialist research skills to provide the necessary range of investigation techniques. Consequently, projects are undertaken on a national and international basis.

Post-tensioned Concrete
Peter Lindsell & Associates have wide experience in the design, construction, load testing, maintenance and demolition of post-tensioned concrete bridges spanning more than 30 years. The design of post-tensioned concrete structures and bridges have been taught at undergraduate and post-graduate level since 1975. On the basis of this range of experience, members of the Company drafted the Department of Transport Advice Note BA50/93, followed by research reports on the feasibility of strengthening and designing for demolition of post-tensioned bridge decks.

Railway Structures
Peter Lindsell & Associates have worked on numerous railway bridges and associated structures. Structural assessment, live load testing, stress measurements and demolition operations have been undertaken on historic and modern bridges. Due to time constraints, many of these operations have been performed simultaneously, so that all necessary data and information could be gathered quickly and remotely before train services resumed.
